HTTP + SSL = HTTPS

SSL certificate (HTTPS)

On February 8 2018, Google announced they would eventually mark all the sites that are encrypted with HTTP as “not secure”. Google also announced they will give more priority to the site which is encrypted with HTTPS and can bring those sites to the top SERP results. When you load a site over HTTP, your connection to the site is not encrypted and not secure which means anyone on the network can easily access your site and gathers the information and can even modify the contents on your site before it gets to you. Whereas, with HTTPS your site is totally secure and encrypted and no one on the web can steal the data so that all your personal information such as passwords and credit card numbers were totally secured and cannot access by a third eye.

This is how a site without HTTPS shows warning to the users :

An important part about HTTPS is SSL. This SSL protocol enables encryption and helps to secure the websites information from being stealed.

The encrypted channel in HTTPS is created using Transport Layer Socket (TLS) protocol, also known as, Secure Socket Layer (SSL).

The term HTTPS or Hyper Text Transfer Protocol was invented and coined by Tim – Berners-Lee and his team at CERN in 1989 and has been widely used as the default communication protocol. HTTPS first establishes an encrypted communication channel, and then transmit information from the browser to the client. HTTPS has many benefits over HTTP because it is more secure and encrypted.

Here are some benefits of using HTTPS:

Increased Website Rankings

Better Referrer Data
